Population: In the middle of the XX century, there were about 200 thousand gazelles in Kazakhstan, now their number is about 15 thousand.
Status. A rare and endangered species. Category III. A declining species.
Distribution.
Until the middle of the twentieth century, it lived almost throughout the semi-arid and desert zone of Kazakhstan, had a continuous range from the Caspian Sea to the Ileyskaya Kotovina. The northern border ran along the 47th parallel; currently, in most of the area, it has shifted far to the south. Separate isolated populations were formed: Taukum, Muyunkum, Kyzylkum, Ustyurt, Mangyshlak and in the Ili basin. The area has ceased to be continuous. Currently, gazelles are absent in the Alakol, Zaisan basins and in the greater northern part of the Betpak-Dala desert.
