Number: Rare. About 10 animals live in the Almaty reserve. Lynx is rare in the Western Tien Shan, 4-5 individuals live in the Aksu-Zhabagli reserve.
Status.
A rare and endangered species. Category III. A rare subspecies of lynx. It is also listed in the Red Books of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Distribution.
The range of the Turkestan lynx covers the mountains of Central Asia. In Kazakhstan, it inhabits the Tien Shan, Zhetysu Alatau, Tarbagatai, and Saur. In the Syrdarya Karatau, the lynx disappeared around the 40s of the twentieth century.
