Population: According to individual studies, the total number of Glossy Ibis in Kazakhstan can vary from 1.5 thousand to 2 thousand individuals, depending on the season and places of observation. The global population is estimated at between 0.2 million and 2.3 million individuals.
Status: A rare and endangered species with sharply declining numbers (Category II).
Habitat: InKazakhstan in the 1940s and 1950s it nested along the northern coast of the Caspian Sea, in the lower reaches of the Ural River north to Uralvillage,in the locality of Antonovo, in the lower reaches of the Yrgyz and Torgairivers, on the Aral Sea and the Syrdarya River, as well as in the lower reaches of the Sarysu district, Shu, Ile rivers, along the coast of Lake Balkash from the southern tip to the delta of the Ile river. In the 1970s, it’s verified that it nested only in thedelta of the Volga River. Since the 1980s, nesting has been observed in the Ural Delta.
