Population: In recent decades, the number of Himalayan snowcocks in Kazakhstan has fluctuated and depends on many factors, including climatic conditions and anthropogenic influences. In Aksu-Jabagly, adecrease in density was observed from 8.5 individuals in the 1970s to 3.9 in the 2000s.

Status: Non-endangered species of no economic value, but with ecological and cultural significance.

Habitat: The Himalayan snowcock does not make migrations, and instead lives a sedentary existence inthe highlands of Southeastern and Eastern Kazakhstan. It inhabits the upperbelt of Alpine slopes and subalpine meadows with rock outcrops, cliffs throughout the highlands of the Tien Shan to the outskirts of the Southern Altai; at altitudes of 900-1500 m in the Zhetysu Alatau, and at altitudes of2500-3300 m in the Ileysky Alatau.
