Number: A full assessment of the number of species in Kazakhstan has not been carried out, but a reduction is expected. In 2003-2006, 1.2-1.5 thousand pairs nested in the Aral-Caspian region. The global population of the species is estimated at 180-500 thousand mature individuals
Status. A rare and endangered species. Category II. A species with rapidly declining numbers
Distribution. It is widespread in Eurasia. It sporadically inhabits the entire territory of the republic, including the plains and mountains of Eastern, Southeastern and Central Kazakhstan, Betpakdal, the Aral Sea region, Mangyshlak, Ustyurt and the Volga-Ural interfluve.
