Population: In 2003-2007, 14 horses from German zoos were brought to the Altyn-Emel National Park. In 2024, 7 individuals from zoos in the Czech Republic and Germany were released in Central Kazakhstan. The global population is more than 3,000 individuals.
Status.
A rare and endangered species.  Category I: endangered.
Distribution.  
Przewalski's horse is a typical inhabitant of dry grass-wormwood steppes. The species was originally described in Central Dzungaria (Western China). In the past, its range covered vast territories of the Asian steppes, extending from the east of the Volga to the foothills of the Tien Shan and the Mongolian Altai, and also included Transbaikalia.
