Distribution.
It is widespread almost everywhere in Kazakhstan, but avoids dry, arid areas. It lives in floodplain forests and steppe areas adjacent to the floodplain. For him, the soil condition is important, which allows him to arrange burrows in dry and non-flooded places.  It is quite common in mountainous areas: Tien Shan, Zhetysu Alatau, Tarbagatai, Saur, Altai. In Kungei, Alatau is found both in the mountains and in the foothills.
